BIO Ciklus

Ciklus Ensemble is an open and dynamic musical ensemble born in late 2010. Ciklus Esemble is formed by more than a dozen restless young artists who admire the conceptual fantasies of the greatest composers and artists from the 20th and 21th century, and who are aiming to explore and spread the avant-garde musical production. By means of exchange and experimentation, Ciklus works taking as a basis a close relationship between performers and composers so as to achieve a more faithful interpretation of the piece as well as to support innovative ideas.

Additionally, Ciklus Ensemble manages to unite its members´ youth and vitalitiy along with each one´s extense artistic experience whether in the orchestral field, in chamber music or as soloists. Since its creation, this ensemble has performed more than 30 works, and it has had the opportunity to perform in several festivals such as La Quincena Musical de San Sebastian (The San Sebastian Musical Fortnight), within the Ciclo de Jóvenes Intérpetes (Young Performers Cycle), Fundación Juan March, 8.° Festival SMASH de Música Contemporánea (8th SMASH Contemporary Music Festival), Circuito de Música Contemporánea “Musikagileak” (“Musikagileak” Contemporary Music Circuit), Festival Internacional Carmelo Bemaola (Carmelo Bemaola International Festival), III Ciclo de Música de Cámara Kutxa (III Kutxa Chamber Music Series), Teatro Campos Elíseos de Bilbao (Campos Elíseos Theatre in Bilbao), Ciclo de Música de Cámara de Donostia Musika (Donosita Musika Chamber Music Series) or FAIC Festival (Federation of Iberian Composers' Associations), among others, with performances taking place in cities such as Madrid, Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Nerja or Málaga.

The project Music Under Construction, in which all the pieces of the setlist have been commissioned from young composers by the own ensemble, has improved and boosted the commitment Ciklus Ensemble has with young composers. Thanks to this project, Ciklus has premiered more than a dozen works by young composers.

This ensemble has refined itself during the last years under the mentoring of Karsten Dobbers, and it has had the chance to work with renowned composers such as José Luis Campana or Isabel Urrutia as well as the soloists of the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
